16th Teesside Boys Brigade

Each week The Boys’ Brigade works with thousands of young people many of whom have no church connection. Nationally the organisation works with over 60,000 children & young people in over 1500 companies (groups) in the UK & Republic of Ireland every week.

The Boys’ Brigade recognise that the influences surrounding today’s young people can be far from helpful and that too many lose control at great cost to themselves, their families and the community.

The B.B.s’ answer is to catch the energy and enthusiasm of youth and to channel it purposefully via a programme of achievements. The Boys are awarded badges in recognition of their work and should they complete the programme will be presented with the B.B. Presidents Badge and then their Queens Badge should they wish to pursue this route.

The B.B. experience starts at age 5 with Anchor Boys, through Junior Section at age 8 and Company Section at age 11. When a boy reaches age 14 he becomes a Senior, leading to the position of Officer at age 18.

The Junior Section of the 16th Boys’ Brigade caters for the ages eight to eleven and is the middle section of the Company. Their meeting is held each Monday between 6:30 and 7:45 during term time, at Stockton Baptist Tabernacle.

The 16th Teesside are a small but growing Company led by a committed and enthusiastic team of twelve male and female Officers. They endorse the spirit and belief of the B.B. whilst supporting the object which for 125 years has included: “The Promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness”.

Boys’ Brigade is not all work, the 16th offer a range of fun activities, from indoor games on a meeting night to such pursuits as Paintball, Climbing Wall and the annual week-long Summer Camp. Two new initiatives we are hoping to build on this year are the introduction of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and the Drum Band, which should test the rhythmic ability of any boy!
